3011 A Fine Pair of Treen Magnum Coasters

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a remarkable pair of large coasters, and for a variety of reasons.  Apart from being very tactile and with 'presence' they are made of a timber we have been unable to identify for certain, but which we think is probably burr maple.  They have a fine colour and patination, and apart from one old reapir (done very well and which may even be original) they are in excellent condition.  They are also very heavy, partly because the base is much thicker than usual.

The sides have three concave 'ribs', and the interiors are centered by turned paterae.  The undersides appear never to have been baize lined, and the turning marks where the chisel has 'chattered' are clearly visible, though worn over the years.

We have tried these on all the magnum decanters we currently have in stock and they all fit well.
