4085 A Blue Delftware Bin Label for PORT
This is the earliest type of 'standard' bin label, and it is chacterised by its navy blue lettering on a pale blue-glazed earthenware body.
Any delftware bin labels are seldom seen, although once they used to be common enough. The blue ones are the least seen, the more usual being those with deep magenta lettering on a whiteish ground.
This example is in good condition with only minor fritting around the edges. There are no cracks and it has not been restored.
While port is not an unusual name to see on a bin label, it is among the most useful, This one has the unusual feature of a full stop (period mark if you are viwing in the US) after the word 'PORT'.
It is clear that this label, 4084 and 9960 were all crafted by the same person as each has the very unusual full stop (period mark if you are in the USA) after the word 'port' and the formation of the letters seem to be by the same hand.
