4094 A Very Small Mahopgany Coaster
Antique coasters of small size are seldom seen, but this is as small an example to have found its way here! It is the standard pattern for a mahogany coaster of about 1780 - 1800 and must have been made for a very small decanter.
The deeply ogee moulded side is crisply turned, but as the amount of mahogany is insufficient, there is no groove on the underside into which to fold the baize; it is simply glued.
It has been photgraphed here with a miniature decanter #4091 - which we just happened to buy two days previously!
Date: c.1800
Dimensions: 3.5", 9 cm diameter
Price: UK customers £160, US customers $255, Euro customers €190
