4098 A Pair of Cut Shaft & Globe Decanters
This is a fine pair of early Victorian shaft & globe decanters, being of solid construction, well cut and in fine bright condition. The spherical bodies are cut with two bands of large oval printies or olives, beneath panel-cut necks and above the star-cut bases. They retain their original hollow cushion stoppers which are similarly cut.
The decanters are numbered 11 and 22, and so is one stopper (for 22). The base of the stopper for No.11 has been slightly reduced to remove a chip, but its effectiveness has not been diminished.
These are early examples of the Victorian shaft & globe form. Later versions tend to be lighter in weight and less bold in execution.
