4102 A Pretty Pair of Inlaid Mahogany Magnum Coasters

Click on the images to see more detail

This interesting and pretty pair of coasters will hold every magnum decanter I currently have in stock.  They are fashioned from quite lightweight mahogany with delicate small mouldings and near upright sides.  The top of the raised gallery is inlaid with dark and pale chequer stringing lines.  The coasters are centred by turned roundels within two narrow bands of stringing lines which match those on the galleries.

The undersides have baize linings which are old, but probably not original.

The condition of these coasters is as good as one might expect in view of their weight and material with just very small restorations and nicks commensurate with their 230 year-old age.

Date: c.1780

Dimensions: 6", 15.3 cm. diameter, 5.1", 13 cm internally.
