5005 A Very Fine Magnum Taper Decanter

Click on the images to see more detail

As I brought this home yesterday,(well, it was yesterday when I wrote that) I said to my wife that I had just bought the finest decanter I have had in at least 10 years!  As soon as she saw it she agreed.

This is a generous magnum size, but that is not all - it is very well made and elegant despite, or possibly because of its size.  The body is plain, but the neck and shoulders are panel-cut and it has four neck rings which are also cut.  The  stopper is a plain bevelled inverted pear shape.

Descriptions can tell one the bare facts, but there is something about this one which really 'spoke to' me.  I hope it does to you, too!

The coaster I have pictured with it is probably Irish and about 20 years later, but nevertheless it fits well and the two look as if they were almost made for each other.  It can be seen on my 'Coasters' page and the stock number is 4093

Date: c.1800
