5014 A Plain Baluster-Shape Wine Jug with Armorial

This is an eminently practical wine (or claret) jug, the body of which is devoid of decoration apart from a wheel-engraved coat of arms (see detail) opposite the handle.  It has a sturdy glass loop handle with a shaped thumbpiece to better aid grip, and there is a single bold neck ring.  There is also a small pouring lip.  It has a hollow ball stopper with a spherical finial.

We are often asked for plain, undecorated decanters, but most of those who ask, have a clear idea in their mind's eye what they are looking for - and it isn't something like this!  The joy is that as a result, this is considerably less costly than a popular model.  All it takes, is someone who 'thinks out of the box' to acquire this one - and they will probably reap the rewards of sensible buying - as well as envious glances when they use it in front of their friends!
