5017 An Engraved Taper Decanter with Heart Stopper

Click on the images to see more detail

This pretty decanter is probably continental European - French, Swedish, I am unable to be certain, but despite it being an English model, the execution and detail of the decoration puts it firmly outside the UK.  It may even be American!

The tapered body has a panel- or slice-cut neck with two horizontal bands of very light cutting, and beneath a polygonal rim.  It has a band of engraved 'spears' interspersed with stars from which are pendant swags and tassels.  The base is cut with narrow flutes, while the heart-shaped stopper is diagonally fluted on either side which gives it an appearance of being facetted.

This is a full-bottle-size decanter and s bright and clear.  The rim has been restored, but the restoration is all but invisible.
