5044 A Pair of Cut Mallet Decanters

Click on the images to see more detail

This pair of full bottle-size decanters are shaped like a sculptor's or carpenter's mallet.  The bodies are cut overall with very fine 'diamonds' beneath panel- or slice-cut shoulders and necks which are cut with eight horizontal concave bands with notched edges.  They are fitted with facet-cut ball stoppers on waisted notched stems.

The quality and fineness of the cutting of these decanters is quite exceptional for its regularity and precision.  Indeed the cutting is quite 'sharp' with very little, if any evidence of damage.

Date: c.1880-1900

Dimensions: 11", 28 cm high incl. stoppers
