5078 A Pretty Amber Engraved Decanter with Thistle Stopper

Click on the images to see more detail

This is an unusual decanter of paleish amber colour.  The body is finely wheel-engraved with fruiting vine decoration with frilly tendrils.  The neck and shoulders are finely panel-cut, while the base is star-cut.   The stopper is a hollow octagonal thistle shape with a facetted knop and star-cut on top.

Decanters of this colour are perfect for white wine and can pleasantly surprise guests if used that way.  This one holds a full bottle and is fit for purpose.

Date: c.1880 - 1920
