Click on the images to see more detail

This delightful label was made in 1809 by Elizabeth Morley - a well known maker of wine labels who was working in London either side of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The label is a small rectangle with a double reeded edge and surmounted by a disc engraved with a crest and the label is suspended by a chain.  It is hallmarked for 1809, has the sterling standard mark and the duty mark, but the assay office mark is not present and clearly was never struck.
