5095 A Pair of Steel Champagne Pliers

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a pair of pliers specially designed to 'snip' the wire cage to a champagne bottle. The end of one handle has a serated edge to aid the removal of the foil, while the other end has a brush to clean the any debris from the mouth of the bottle.

The pliers have a good 'patination' and in good working condition.  Being made from mild steel, the 'jaws' of the pliers are slightly, but only slightly, degraded by the pressure of the wire on the mild steel, but otherwise these are in very fine condition.

Date: c.1900 - 1920
