5107 A Pair of Mother-of-Pearl Wine Labels

Click on the images to see more detail

Of all patterns for mother-of-pearl wine labels, this is probably the often seen.  The curious thing is that silver labels of this pattern are really quite rare.  They are of shaped crescent outline with notched lower edges, and the blackened lettering is framed within stylised foliage and cones.   One bears the legend W - WINE, while the other has SHERRY.

Labels of a similar type may be seen in the standard reference book - Wine Labels 1730 - 2003 A Worldwide History
