5120 A Fine Pair of Cut Shaft & Globe Decanters

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a really good pair of decanters of a type known as 'shaft & globe' for obvious reasons.  The almost spherical bodies are cut with two bands of oval printies, separated by unusual and narrow bands of hobnail cutting.  The necks are cut with hexagonal facets and the bases are star-cut.  The cutting of the stoppers match the bodies.

This pair of decanters are in exceptional condition.  Each decanter and its stopper are numbered, indicating that they are original, they hold a full bottle of wine each, and they are bright and clear.

Date: c.1860
