5181 A Pair of Blue 'Prussian' Decanters

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a delightful and unusual pair of decanters.  They are unusual because of the colour being a much paler blue than usually seen - and very attractive, too.  They each have three 'bladed' neck rings and a moulded disc stopper and the pontil marks are ground, but only lightly polished.

It appears in the image, that there is a turquoise tint around the stopper area, but this is a trick of the light; the actual decanters are a uniform colour as seen in the bodies.

The lips of these decanters, which evert only slightly, suggest a date which may be late 18th century, rather than early 19th.

Date: c.1790 -1805
