5214 A Fine Georgian Taper Decanter

Click on the images to see more detail

If you were looking for a plain decanter to do a good job, then you may have found it! This decanter is the epitome of elegant simplicity, being a curved taper and with an everted lip.  It has an inverted pear-shaped stopper which is scalloped around its edge which is, in all probability, the original.

This decanter holds a full bottle  (75 cl.) quite easily and it pours well without gurgling - in fact it is supremely fit for purpose!  In fact, one has to ask if a better form of decanter has been invented or made in the past 230 or so years.

Date: c.1775-90
