6027 A Lady's Legs Corkcrew in its Original Leather Pouch

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a good 'Lady's Legs' corkscrew.  The celluloid 'stockings' in two shades of green are good and intact and the nickel-plated worm is full and pointed.  The shank is stanped 'REGISTRIRT'.

Like all corkscrews of this pattern, this was made in Germany.  It is thought that those made for the Englsih market has open wire helixes, but those intended for the home market had archimidean helixes; this is the latter.

Most unusually, this corkscrew has a full-grain leather pouch with a purple lining in moire silk(?). The folding action is firm and tight - all in all in excellent condition with only minor tarnishing to the shank.

Date: c.1890
