6512 An Unusual Small Ships Decanter

Click on the images to see more detail

This small decanter holds a litre to the neck, but a half-bottle would suit it well. The body is a simple conefluted at the base and engraved with a band of small stars mid-body below a pair of light horizontal chevrons, enclosing further stars and polished ovals.  The neck is panel-cut  and it has three incised neck rings below the slightly everted lip.

Like all ship's decanters, this one is unusually heavy for its size (weighing 795 grams).  It is also unusual for being engraved as few ships decanters are.

Date: c.1800

Dimensions: 10", 25.4 cm high incl. stopper
