6513 A Pair of Continental Decanters with Gilt Decoration

Click on the images to see more detail

This pair of mallet-shaped decanters with uncut bodies are gilded with rococo cartouches enclosing trelliswork beneath scrolling foliage and separated by pendant swags.  The necks are panel-cut and notched beneath everted lips and gilded rims.  The stoppers are tapered, notched and hexagonal with gilded motifs on their top surfaces.

These decanters seem to sum up the 'Belle Epoch' with their whimsical decoration - just the thing for a jolly pair of dessert wines perhaps!
