6514 A Rare Georgian Taper Icing Decanter

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a really rare decanter as it has an 'icing pocket' in the base.  The pocket is accessed by a silver-mounted cork with a folding handle.  The shape of the decanter at first suggests a date of c.1780, but we feel it is probably very early 19th century.

The shape of the decanter is a taper with the shoulders, panel-cut  and the lower portion of the body is cut with narrow flutes.  The pear-shaped stopper with its 'bull's eye' is contemporary but a replacement.

Date: c.1810

Dimensions: 13.2", 33.5 cm. high incl. stopper
