6529 A Pair of 2-Litre French Carafes

Click on the images to see more detail

Large numbers of outsize carafes and decanters were made in Northern France for cider, particularly in Normandy and Picardy.  Today these make excellent vessels for wine and are considerably cheaper than antique English decanters of the same dimensions.

This is a good pair with each carafe holding two litres to just below the single low neck ring.  They would hold three bottles each - at a squeeze!
