6544 A Fine George III silver wine Funnel by David Hennell

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a really good silver wine funnel made by David Hennell in London in 1801.  It has the unusual feature of a fluted band between the body and the spout; this is to allow the air to escape as the wine is poured into the decanter.

The funnel has a fully curved spout to direct the wine down the all of the decanter  and it has a well-shaped 'tang'.   The top moulding is reeded and it has a n unusally pretty pierced coarse strainer.  It is very fit for purpose.
