6550 A Good Plain Ship's Decanter.

This is a classic antique ship's decanter.  It has a conical body rising to a short cylindrical neck, which is applied with three bladed neck rings below an everted rim. It has a target or bulls-eye stopper.

It is apt to consider that many modern designs for decanters, with their emphasis on giving room for wine to 'breathe' (i.e. become more oxidised) adopt a 200 year-old model on which to base their design - one like this.

This decanter is in excellent condition without any chips or cracks and is free from internal cloudiness or bloom.  The stopper is contemporary with the decanter and of the correct style, but is probably not original.  The decanter is very fit for purpose.
