6559 A Rare Pair of Small Georgian Ship's Decanters

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a rare and unusual pair of small ship's decanters.  The bodies are of flared trumpet form with panel- or slice-cut shoulders, below three facetted neck rings and an everted lip.  The lower part of the bodies is cut with fine flutes.  The tall mushroom stoppers are replacements, but well in keeping with the date and form.

These decanters hold slightly less than a full bottle - about the amount one would need for a port which had thrown a sediment so very practical for a port-lover!  They would be equally useful when serving half-bottles of dessert wines.

Date: c.1810

Dimensions: 8.8", 22.4 cm. high incl. stoppers
