9554 A fine and rare Charles Hull 'Presto' corkscrew
This is a fine example of a rare and collectable corkscrew by Charles Hull. The broad-pitched worm is pushed (rather than turned) into the cork. When it has been driven home, the mechanism engages a ratchet, so that the cork can be pulled out without the worm rotating out of the cork.
This example has its patent label on one end of the handle and a button on the other which releases the mechanism. The shank is stamped 'C. Hull's Patent' - although Hull never completed his patent papers!
