9730 A Ruby Red Claret Jug/Flask
This is a good example of a red flask claret jug of the Victorian period. Like all flasks, it is of oval section.
The red body has a twisted clear glass handle and a facetted ball stopper which has a very slight pinkish hue to it. The body has a small single drip ring, and a pouring lip.
Recently we met a lady who preferred not to get up from the table to pour wine for her frequent parties and set claret jugs like this between each pair of diners at her table. What a clever and generous host she must be!
