9773 A Cast Silver Wine Funnel Stand

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a heavy gauge wine funnel stand with a cast gardroon and scroll rim. It is engraved with the crest of the 50th (The Queen's Own) Regiment of Foot.

While most wine funnels probably had stands in which they would rest when not in use, very few survive today. Those that do are usually Scottish or Irish and are late 18th or very early 19th century in date. This one is more rubust than most with its heavily cast rim and was made in 1826 by William Eley.
