9775 An Enamel Wine Label for Claret

Enamel wine labels are a rarity and this is a pretty example for CLARET. It has a garland of roses and foliage above the legend which is flanked by scroll motifs. There is a further floral spray below.

For a long time, labels such as this were thought to be English and mid-late18th century, but this one is probably by Samson of Paris.
