9889 A Rare Set of 14 Pottery 'Coathanger' Bin Numbers

Click on the images to see more detail

This is a very rare part set of bin numbers.

Most bin numbers are circular and were for use in commercial premises where a cellar book would correlate with numbers on the bins, the contents of which were regularly changing. The numbers had to be large enought to be read in candlelight from a distance.

This set, however are the shape normally seen with generic wine names for domestic use. It must be presumed, therefore, that this set were from a very large home where the contents of the cellars were also frequently changed. Obviously the original owner was a great entertainer!

They are in fine condition except No. 18 which has damage to the back and a crack which can be seen on the front.
