9978 A NEW Coloured Decanter by Bob Crooks

I saw this and thought....WOW! This is a brand new departure for me!  I have been asked on several occasions if I have ever thought of having non-antique stock, but I have seen little that I find exciting, fresh and a worthy follow-on from what was made in the past - and, of course, wine -related.   I have new wine glasses because they fulfill a function that no antique glasses can manage, but decanters....?  Until now, I have not seen any.

This flask-shaped decanter, called "Encalmo Spirale", is brilliantly conceived and finely creafted. I am very impressed with the accuracy of its decoration - the contrast between the simplicity of form and the complexity of how the 'trailed' decoration has been applied.  The colours blend beautifully, and quite simply, I find it highly satisfying.

It is signed on the base by Bob Crooks. He is one of Britain’s most highly regarded glassmakers.  He is renowned for the skilfully executed dynamic forms and surfaces, which he has been producing over the last twelve years. Continuously thinking of original and challenging ideas, his work has been exhibited at International level and in noted exhibitions in Italy, China, Scandinavia, Australia and the USA, alongside many exhibitions at home in the UK.  Each piece is designed, handmade and finished by Bob. No moulds are used to create the forms or surfaces achieved.
