This is a good example of a classic 'prussian' decanter of the early 19th century. These were made in large numbers from the very late 18th century until the 1830s with only minor changes in design over that period. This example is better than many being bright and clear without any chips or cracks and ready to use!
It has three neck rings to aid a secure grip being taken, the 'shoulders are panel-cut and there is a band of fluting around the base. This latter feature refracts light enabling a better chance of seeing the colour and clarity of the wine inside.
The decanter holds a full bottle with ease and has a further advantage of your being able to find others similar should you need more for large parties; we often have them.
