This is a fine pair of treen (wooden) coasters in excellent condition and with a delightful patination. They enjoy a fine tactile quality and they are the right size for a pair of Georgian decanters - so very practical, too.
They were made about 1820, and the turnery is in crisp condition showing very few dinks or bruises; this is because the East Indian Rosewood used is very hard and dense. The inside bases have concentric ring turning and the undersides are baize-lined.
Treen coasters are becoming difficult to find, so much so that today, they are almost rare.
