This is an impressive wine or claret jug with its finely engraved neo-rennaisance decoration and large magnum capacity. It was made in the late 19th century and is typical of the artistic glass productions of its time - except that it is larger than most.
The decoration comprises a central strapwork cartouche within a shaped frame of rinceaux (flowery scrolls), beaded swags and palm fronds and with beaded and matt borders. Overall, the jug is of flattened ovoid form (often referred to a flask-shape)and it has a loop handle and hollow balloon-shaped stopper, similarly decorated. It is raised on a plain foot.
